Description:

Product development involves many different domains, e.g. components or processes. The consideration of isolated views single domains is helpful for specific applications (e.g. functional modelling in early phases). However, the management of the overall connectivity is of major importance for planning product adaptations and evaluating resulting consequences. Successfully implemented methods like FMEA or QFD already make use of the connectivity between domains, e.g. of components and functions. However, these approaches represent only partial solutions for some specific tasks.
The management of multiple-domain networks can be based on the methods of the Design Structure Matrix and Domain Mapping Matrices. The tutorial introduces the foundations of the multiple-domain matrix and explains its application. Important steps are presented by use cases from the system definition to the implementation of analysis outcomes. The software LOOMEO is demonstrated as its application can efficiently support the approach: LOOMEO is designed to facilitate all process steps of the multiple-domain analysis, e.g. the data acquisition, structure navigation, analysis, and optimization tasks. Participants of the tutorial receive a fully functional trial-version of the software LOOMEO free of charge.
Participants gain a close insight to the possibilities of managing complex systems that consist of a variety of element and dependency types. Finally, participants can seize the chances that emerge from controlling (not only reducing) complexity in product development.
